Heart Disease

Symptoms of Heart Disease

Heart disease can show up in different ways, depending on what is affecting you. Some common signs and symptoms of heart disease include:

  • Chest pain and chest discomfort
  • Pain, weakness, or numbness in the legs or arms
  • Pain in the neck, upper abdomen, back, throat, or jaw
  • Shortness of breath

You may not be fully diagnosed with heart disease until something more serious happens, which is why it’s so important to keep an eye out for symptoms and discuss any concerns or issues you might have with your cardiologist.

Types of Heart Disease

There are various conditions that may affect you if you’re dealing with heart disease. Some of these may include:

  • Congenital heart defects
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart infection
  • Heart muscle disease
  • Heart rhythm problems
  • Heart valve disease

During your visit, your provider will take your vitals, including your blood pressure and heart rate, and perform a physical examination. They will also discuss your detailed medical history to pinpoint your risk factors for developing certain conditions. Some conditions can be diagnosed through a physical exam. Other issues will require additional testing, like an EKG or a blood test. Aside from discussing treatment options like medications or procedures, we may also recommend lifestyle changes. This may include increasing exercise or improving your diet.
